Five College Undergraduate Research Journal

(end date 2016)

I co-founded the Five College Undergraduate Research Journal (5CURJ) – a peer-reviewed publication, committed to helping students print their research, theses, independent and/or other scholarly work. We aspire to be a stepping-stone for Five College students towards publication in reputable scholastic journals. Our goal is to enhance and enliven research and scholastic discourse across disciplines by promoting academic collaboration and friendship among Five College students and faculty. It was important to us to create an interdisciplinary research journal that published null results (to encourage learning from our peers) and required all papers to be submitted with a list of biases or limitations.

As a core member, I

  • collaborated with team members to create comprehensive submission guidelines and checklists for math, humanities, social sciences, and other natural sciences.

  • collaboratively created the organizational structure and agenda for meetings.

  • recruited faculty and professionals in various academic fields as editors, freelance web-developers and graphic designers, and first round of student members and assisted in setting up a chapter in four schools.

  • collaborated with providers of web software from Scholarworks to create an authenticated login, ensure double-blind peer review software, and created preliminary wireframe for the site.
